This tutorial will show you how to fill in the EAN code for your products, on the eMAG Marketplace platform.
The EAN code is the barcode attached to retail products or goods which offers specific information about them, by reading it using a special optical scanner to read it. The EAN code is unique for every product type.
Not all the 13 digit codes are valid EAN codes. It is important to use EAN codes that have a GS1 license for your listed products because they are validated with GS1 standards. If you buy EAN codes from other sources than the GS1, you lose the uniqueness of information associated with them.
For example: completing an unlicensed EAN code to your listed product will generate its rejection.
You can obtain these codes from an authentic source through GS1 Hungary Nonprofit Zrt or another GS1 Member Organization. Based on GS1 identification standards, you can assign a global, unique code to your products that are authentic and applicable in other areas of commerce as well.
Once you have the proper EAN codes, you can list your products on the eMAG Marketplace platform.
However, there are several categories for which the implementation of the EAN code in the case of new products is not mandatory. You can find them in the list here.
You can manually add the EAN code, by accessing the Products menu – the Add product option. In the Product identifier section right under the Product ID field, you can see the EAN field where you can complete the 13 digits of the EAN code for your product.
If you typed the wrong code, you can delete it and fill in the correct one, by clicking on the blue button right next to the field.
The main benefits of the EAN code in the eMAG Marketplace platform are:
- Filling it in your product documentation, you will avoid losing it among the thousands of identical products which appear multiple times on-site and which can create confusion for customers.
- The EAN code helps by grouping identical products on the same page of the site. This way, customers have the possibility to choose more easily from the listed offers of the same product.
- The EAN code is also among the available search filters when you need to do updates for one of your products, on the eMAG Marketplace platform.
